In London

October 17, 2011

 I’m here. I’m in London.
And guess what?  It’s been sunny ever since I got here three days ago. How’s that for a good omen?

I want to thank you so much for all of your kind messages; they were heartfelt and I continue to be touched by your thoughtfulness.  Your support, your cheerleading, make me so happy to have this blog, to have acquainted myself with such good, positive, and like-minded people.

I got here with relatively little drama. On the plane, there was a crying baby a few rows behind me who set ears ablaze with her high-pitched wails. But otherwise, my journey went off without a hitch.

Liebling met me at the airport and we hauled my appallingly large and awkward suitcase back to Liebling’s place in Richmond, a suburb west of London. We will only be living here temporarily- in three weeks’ time we move to our flat right in the city.

As predicted, I have been sleeping. A lot.

Despite this, we have had the opportunity to profit from what has been amazing weather the last few days.  I finally saw the Thames River (pictured above) in person and have strolled along Richmond’s high street (shopping street).  Liebling has been leading me around on the arm and giving me what I call a “London Education”: telling me what to see, where to eat, and how to get around.

While I haven’t been in London very long, I somehow think that I’m going to like it here. Stay tuned.

Psst! Don’t forget to “like” me on Facebook if you haven’t already! Your support is much appreciated!

Looks amazing. You lucked out with the weather!

I do hate crying babies…I usually try to get the bulk head seats, and always suffer, due to those being reserved for folks with babies.

There is the awesome Chinese restuarant in Bayswater u must go too!!! Or maybe wait till I come over :-) And of course the best Indian I've had near covent garden.

Enjoy your time and the weather!

Yay! You're finally here! I knew there was a reason the weather suddenly picked up again on the weekend. Your photos are just gorgeous!

Did you say you were moving to Brick Lane? How lovely! I am a bit envious of your proximity to the centre of town!

Thanks for stopping by my blog too. :-) Sunshine is definitely a good omen. I was there a long time ago, but London is a vibrant, cool, sophisticated place. I think you'll like it too. Also, in response to your question, I was in Toronto last March for a little over a week. I felt like I saw a lot, but would love to go again in the warmer months and check out the island.

i am SO happy for you – and from what i hear it's often rainy/overcast (?) in London so I'd say 3 sunny days in a row is a very positive sign!

p.s. my mom told me the bag arrived yesterday! yay! thank you thank you :)

Wow, it's sunny in London?! She wanted you to see her at her best. Hope you settle in well and that your job search is successful!

A bit random, but do you think you'll be there for the summer Olympics or would you head out to avoid the crowd?

@Hannah: More London posts are a-coming!

@kuesooM: Yes, come and we'll do Chinese!

@Emm: Thanks! I talked to my mother this morning and apparently it is rainy in Toronto… :-) Yup, I'll be living about a 2 minute walk from Brick Lane- will have to sample all the Indian cuisine!

@Emily: Thanks chica, let's hope it holds out until you get here!!

@ramblinbess: The BEST months to go to Toronto are definitely July and August. There is a festival EVERY WEEKEND in July and they are for the most part free and open to the public! Toronto is so fun in the summer.

@Paps: Thank you and thanks for dropping by! I just checked out your blog and your pics are so beautiful!

@Tamra: For now, at least. I am hoping it holds out. xo

@Crystal: Please come, you are welcome!! We NEED to meet after all these years of reading each other's blogs (since the assistantship in France in 2005)!!!

@Emily: The weather is great but being with my love is better.. ;-)

@Terri: Oh, yes you do, young lady. You have a place to stay when you come, so no excuses!

@Deidre: I need to bring my camera out more because the weather was gorgeous today as well!

@Aritul: Thanks. Where are you at these days?

@Leslie: Thank you! I have been exciting to dig around in my closet and finally start wearing all my cold weather clothing… :-)

@Fly Girl: You speak the truth! I will!

@'Lara: About the weather in London?

@Kay: Glad it arrived! You know, I was talking to some London folk and they say that it's actually a stereotype that it rains here a lot. They say it's often just gray and gloomy.

@Diana: Me and the BF have been talking and we're thinking of getting out of London for at least one of the weeks of the Olympics. It's supposed to be crazy here! Still, it would be kinda cool to see it with my own eyes, so I may stick around.

@kimvan: Thanks! Saw that you were in my hometown… ;-)

@Tatiana: Merci!

@Kristina: I agree that there are certain areas that are very pretty. Can't wait to discover more!
