In all the excitement over my hair, I forgot to mention that Liebling and I are in Paris for the weekend.
It is a very quick trip: only 2 days and 1 night in France’s capital. We arrived early this morning on the Eurostar train from London. Amazingly, the ride between the two cities on this fast train is only a little over two hours. Another huge benefit of living in Europe, where everything is so close together!
It’s Liebling first trip to Paris and my 9th or 10th. So I’ve been running around trying to show him all of Paris highlights. This has been a slew of successes and failures, as I am terrible with maps and my recollection of where things are is shady at best. Still we are having a great time and I have a bunch of photos and updates to share. Stay tuned!
Have you ever been to Paris? What was your favourite thing to do or see?
Psst! Don’t forget to “like” me on Facebook if you haven’t already! Your support is much appreciated!

Looks like you're having blast! My mum grew up in Paris but I have never been there! I was meant to take her last year on a Eurostar break but she was not well enough to travel.
Fun! The best we can do for weekend getaways is Santa Fe or Vail. Good, but not Paris. Is that Sacre Coeur?
I've been to Paris many times, for different reasons, but never really to explore and enjoy the city. It is definitely on my to-do list for this year! It is a beautiful city and I want to see it under this light for a change.
I hope we get to meet up! I'm leaving for the airport in about 30 minutes. Since I lived there I tend to go back to my favorite restaurants, I think Paris has some of the best food in the world!
I did travel to Paris and I had a great time. I don't think I have a favorite place mainly because I had great company everywhere I went. I desperately want to go back to France.
Salut, Oneika — how COOL that you're here for the weekend! Have a total ball … and hopefully next time you're here, we can meet up (I'm in Samois-sur-Seine near Fontainebleau). Would be great to meet one of my favorite bloggers in person!
A la prochaine,
Maureen/UrbanTravelGirl
I can't believe Liebling's never been to Paris! I would love to go back since I've been a couple times but not as an adult, but for now it seems like there's always somewhere new to see first. Have fun!
you guys look so cute i bet your having lots of fun its MY DREAM TO GO THERE!! IF I HAVE NOT SAID THAT ALREADY! IT MY DREAM!!!!! HOPE YOU HAVE FUN!!
Woo hoo! I was just telling my husband that we were both poor/students when we each were in Paris last (he lived there 2x for a total of one year, and I've been once before). I remember sleeping in a hostel with no sheets and crappy breakfast. Awww…the joys of cheap travel.:) I would love to go back now and splurge on some food and just roam instead of trying to see the sights. Have a great time! P.S. I'm kinda shocked that this is Liebling's first time in Paris.
I love that you "forgot" to mention you were in …freakin' Paris!!!!
Please continue to show me how.
Yes, I've been. Unfortunately, I was there for a very cold, very rainy, very miserable 3 days after having been on a wine tasting trip in the south of France (cue the culture shock between the south of France and Paris!). But I really, really want to return and do Paris correctly. By shopping.
Leave it to you to drop your lil bomb " Oh dearies, I forgot to add I'm in Paris for just the weekend." I am sure you're enjoying showing off your language skills to Leibling..lol. Enjoy yourself and your hype hair in the city of lights doll.
Jules
I love everything about Paris. Hope you guys had a blast.
"I'm bored this weekend, think I'll hop on the train and go to Paris." Yea, I want to say that one day.
I've only spent two days in Paris. My favorite part was actually walking around Pere Lachaise cemetary. Have you been?
I'm going to Paris in August. I can't wait to see your photos and I will have tons of questions for your advice.
Post pics soon, I love Paris. Sadly only been once- more than 10 years ago but hope to visit soon.
Such a beautiful and romantic city.
PS: It looks like the weather was cooperative?
Oh, Paris. I have a love-hate relationship with that city, like many people in the world. It's so beautiful on the surface, but it takes a long time to dig beneath the tough exterior of many Parisians. I hope at some point to maybe go back and give it more of a chance. It's not enough to visit briefly… I feel like you have to marinate in it in order to REALLY enjoy it.
That being said, I'm not sure if I have a favorite place in Paris (besides Disneyland, haha!). Or a favorite site… but I can't help but think about Notre Dame. I feel like a lot of my visits have centered around that place… journaling on the outside, going to a cafe nearby, wandering and exploring… so maybe that.
Hope you're having lots of fun! What does Liebling think of Paris?
I'm jealous! Paris is one of my favorite cities. Enjoy!

I was reluctant to go last year but in retrospect I really like Paris. I'd like to go again since it's so close and check out the Latin Quarter as I haven't done that yet. I really enjoyed going around on the Batobus.
I loved Paris. I was there last November and I must admit my favorite parts were my first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower and the flirting with a certain fella. My broken/non-existent French and his broken/non-existent English was fun, cute and exciting. It seems lust is a universal language.
Enjoy!!
I remembered how you said you named your daughter after the city…
It was such a great time, but too short of a trip!
Yes, it's so amazing to be so close to all these epic cities! Love it! I've been a couple of times but didn't have the time to go on this trip! I really like cemetaries but maybe I'm just weird.. LOL!
Um… Tell me more about this French fella!? I agree that lust is universal, compensates for all communication difficulties…
Why were you reluctant to go? The great thing about Paris is that it's pretty big and all the arrondisments are prety distinct from one another so there's a real diversity of things to do.
Thanks, Rashida!
You know, I was SURE that L wasn't going to like Paris since he's not a fan of France or French culture in the first place, but to my surprise he really enjoyed the city and thought that it was gorgeous. Funny you mention Notre Dame because he thought that it was pretty cool architecture-wise!
More pics are a-coming! I'm so pleased that the weather was halfway decent because rain was forecasted for both days we were there! Apart from a little drizzle, both days were relatively dry and we even had a bit of sun yesterday which was fantastic!
You lucky duck! How long are you going for? Paris in August must be divine: great weather! Please don't hesitate to write me if you have any questions, I would love to help!
@Emm: You and hubby should make a quick trip over so you can do a dry run and gather info before you and your mom attempt to go again! It's unbelievable how close Paris is to London!
@ramblinbess: It's crazy to think that such a great city is just a stone's throw away. But seriously, Vail is nothing to sniff at! Yup, it's Sacre Coeur
@Carminelitta: I think it's so important to play tourist in a city that you know as a resident or as an insider. It definitely gives you a different perspective.
@Roni: I don't think we'll be able to meet up
Our train is at 8pm but we're gonna try and hit up a bunch of stuff today so it'll be difficult to coordinate with you. A shame but I know that we'll meet in London soon enough!! Since you are Ms World Traveller and all!!!
@caribelle: For this exact reason I have difficulty pinpointing exactly why I love Paris and France in general! I just always seem to have a good time- it's just a feeling I get when I walk around!
@UrbanTravelGirl: Alas, it was such a short trip that I didn't make any arrangements to meet up with anyone! I'm hoping to come back for another weekend in March by myself so will definitely let you know. I would LOVE to hang!
@Emily: It's wild, he's never been huh?! I almost find it blasphemous hee hee. I think it has something to do with that bizarre rivalous relationship that Germans and French have with each other. He seems to be enjoying it though- particularly the food. I get what you mean when you say that you don't get to revisit places- so many new places to discover!
@Jfizzle: Thanks! Make it happen and let me know if I can help!!
@Terri: Most of the times I've been to Paris I've been on a student budget as well! It is a totally different experience to go as a working adult! As for L, he has travelled the world over (and to random destinations!) so I found it pretty strange he had never been to Paris of all places!
@Theresa: How I wish that I could shop! But since it's such a short trip and I have Liebling in tow (who does NOT like shopping), I've barely been able to set foot in a store (sadness!). I have to make my way back by myself soon! As for Paris weather, as a rule I feel like it's generally yucky most of the year apart from summer. Of the many times I've been, it's only been great weather once or twice- so different from the South where they get 300 days of sunshine a year (this is partly why I LOVED living in Nice)!
@Jules: Hilarious!! Sorry about the bomb lol, I just got so wrapped up in my hair story that this trip slipped to the back of my mind! That's also what happens when you book trips way in advance- you forget when you're supposed to be going!! At any rate we are enjoying ourselves immensely- I wish we had more time!
Ahhh, you're so lucky! I have only been to Paris in my dreams and through the crossaints I eat, lol…actually, I once had a layover at the airport for 2 hours, that about it
I hope you guys had a fab time, and that you got to try Lenôtre
Ajoa
The best part of my Paris adventure was shoving my sweater down the back of my shirt, and running around the Notre Dame cathedral moaning, "SANCTUARY!!!! SANCTUARY!!!!" I got a lot of stares *snort*
Cool that you had a layover in the airport, at least! Where were you going?! Didn't go to Lenotre, actually, boo!
OMG you are crazy!! (and amazing!)
Actually we will be in Europe for 3 weeks visiting my stepchildren who are living in Stuttgart, Germany for 3 years. We plan to do somethings around the bases and a couple of day/night trips. Paris is 4 nights just my husband and me. He is a picky eater so I hope we can both have a good eating experience. He is steak and fries, burgers and fries, fried chicken, did I mention we are from Louisiana originally? I on the other had eat everything and love trying new things. Any suggestions?
Yeah, it was cool. I bought some macaroons, and various pastries at the airport, he he he, they were good.I was on my way to Gothenburg, Sweden
Ahh, pity about Lenotre, hopefully you will get a chance to try it another time.
Ajoa
That's awesome that he enjoyed it so much! You guys will have to get back… and now you're only a hop, skip, and Eurostar ride away!
I want to visit Paris, so jealous right now. Hope you had fun and congratulations on the new job.
Thanks Lara!
Oneika, sometimes the shortest trips are the most memorable. I love the Montemarte area of France where your photos of La Sacré-Cœur Basilica are taken. My sister and I did an “Amelie” movie locations vacation tour of that area which also has the only vineyard inside Paris. My favorite thing to do in Paris is just walk all over the city and “soak it up.”

I agree, the best thing to do in Paris is just to take it all in without a set agenda!
