I’ve got some good news… And some good news (yay!).
The first little positive tidbit is a travel update: this evening Liebling and I are off on a 4.5-day excursion to Norway(!) and I couldn’t be more excited that the day has finally come to embark on this journey. You see, this trip has been a long time in the making- it was last November that we flirted with the idea of discovering more of Scandinavia and fanatically started checking our favourite websites for cheap plane tickets. What turned up in our search was almost too good to be true: round trip tickets to Bergen, Norway in June for 115 Euros (that’s only $142 USD, folks!) per person.
I’ve always wanted to see Norway’s famed fjords, so we would have been FOOLS not to book. And momma didn’t raise no fools, so we did. Right away.
Can I smugly mention that this is why I love living in Europe? Cheap travel is just amazing here. Seriously. I don’t think I could get a bus ticket from Toronto to Montreal for that kind of money.
At any rate, we will be spending the next few days fjord-ing it up around the country, thanks to the amazingly helpful people at Visit Norway USA, who have generously prepared a jam-packed, air-tight itinerary that will take us to the cities of Bergen, Flaam, and Balestrand.
I’ve got a feeling that the pics and tales from this trip are going to be epic. Stay tuned for my Norway updates on my Facebook and Twitter pages- I’ll be sure to post pics as the trip progresses.
As usual, however, I’m rambling and have nearly forgotten to divulge my second piece of good news: the result of myFrommer’s guidebook giveaway! You may remember that I was planning on giving away 5 London 2012 and 5 England/Best of Wales 2012 guides. I sorted through all the entries and Rafflecopter and Random.org picked 10 winners from all those who were eligible. So without any further ado, here are the winners (in no particular order):
- Little Foot/Mickla
- Christine S.
- Raymond W.
- K Sam
- Natasha F.
- Nick Nik
- Sue
- Lu-Gerda
- Natalie M.
- Imani L.
Winners, you have until Wednesday, June 6th at 11:59pm EST to email your mailing address to oneika at oneika-the-traveller.com . If I don’t receive your address by then, I’ll sadly have to give your guide to another contestant, so get cracking! Anyway, a huge congrats to the winners and my heartfelt thanks to all those who entered!
Have you ever been to Norway or any of the other Scandinavian countries? Is it someplace that you think you’d like to go?
Don’t forget to subscribe to my RSS feed (it’s free!) so you don’t miss an update from Oneika the Traveller!

Just wanted to say I LOVE Norway and I LOVE your new blog look!
You are a sweetie!!
Have a wonderful time in Norway! I’ve been to Tampere, Finland when my husband played basketball there. It was the dead of winter so I was pretty miserable as it was dark most of the time, and I found the way people stared at me a bit disconcerting. We took an overnight holiday cruise to Stockholm and found it much more welcoming and culturally more interesting. I would love to make it back to Stockholm someday!
