Stepping Out in London: Ping Pong Restaurant

February 5, 2012

When Ping Pong restaurant invited a group of London travel bloggers to lunch at one of their locations, there was no way I was saying no.

I had been to Ping Pong in London a few other times and had enjoyed their food immensely.  So when the lovely Emm, of Emm in London mentioned that the restaurant was looking to host a group of bloggers and provide us with a free lunch, I didn’t hesitate to accept.

Ping Pong boasts Asian cuisine and invited us to dine last weekend, when Chinese New Year festivities were in full swing in the city.  It really couldn’t have been perfect timing as the holiday had me desperately longing for Hong Kong.  What better way to feel connected to my former place of residence than to spend the holiday eating traditional Chinese food with blogger friends?

The lunch started with a refreshing strawberry and vanilla iced tea.  Now typically, I am not a juice drinker, and like my iced tea relatively plain.  But I threw caution to the wind and ordered this instead of a boring diet coke.  I’m glad that I did.

And then came the food. Glorious, glorious food.
I selected the Ping Pong collection set menu, which gives a good variety of rolls and dumplings for the very affordable price of 9.95 GBP.  I started with the roast pork puff:

Then inhaled the prawn, veg, and duck roll.  Now, I hate duck and originally meant to trade my duck roll for someone else’s prawn roll… Until I realized that I had already mistakenly eaten (and enjoyed) the duck roll. I guess I like duck after all. Oops.

Feeling full but too greedy to not partake in the next course, I promptly demolished the basket of dim sum left in my wake.  I love dumplings, sticky rice, and dumplings and sticky rice accompanied by an assortment of meaty fillings. My taste buds stood at attention.

Despite being caught up in the rapture of gluttony, I managed to beg the darling server to take a photo of our group.  It goes without saying that the company was fabulous. Of course, as travel bloggers, most of the convo centered on the obvious topics of travel and writing. From left to right: little ole me, Miss Emm, Candace, Jen, Melissa, Lindsay, Melizza, and her hubby Greg.

It was a great time with tasty food and great people!  You really can’t ask for anything more.

Do you like Asian cuisine?  What’s your favourite?

I worked at a Ping Pong restaurant when I first arrived in London, this brings back memories!
Otherwise, I love Dim Sum too but didn't stay there long enough to enjoy the perks. I should make a trip there again soon. I actually love all sorts of Asian food, from Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai (not the spicy stuff though) to Japanese.
I'm hungry now!

I love Dim sum as well; in fact I am pretty sure I've dined at that Ping Pong – did it have a 'basement' dining section? lol
Great drinks and company.

I love Asian cuisine. Korean is my favorite by default. I have kimchi jjigae about one a week…no lie. It's so bad (in a good way) that the people at the local Asian market recognize us, they even speak to my husband in Korean. I did love the food in Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand when I was there. I love pho…but Korean is still at the top because the dishes are pretty simple. I wouldn't mind traveling a bit more in Asia and trying out the local food.

Gorgeous photos Oneika! It was a fun day, wasn't it? Do you think you would ever move back to live and work in Hong Kong or the Far East?
