A view of Lima from above is also impressive. We took the bus up to the mirador at the Cerro San Cristobal, which showed off Lima’s vast maze of streets and buildings.
In Barranco, one of the neighbourhoods of Lima, palm trees and lollipop-coloured buildings lent a tropic air.
The white buildings seen from the rooftop from my hotel provided the perfect backdrop as I enjoyed the pool.
The coastline of Lima is also a real treat. In Miraflores, the well-to-do area where Liebling and I spent a good bit of time, the land meets the sea and stunning view are abundant. The Pacific ocean batters the shore; the powerful waves cause a constant spray of mist and rock the many surfers that brave them. This for me was the prettiest part of gritty Lima, hands down!
Tourists are typically told to avoid Lima, but I think the city merits at least a day or two’s visit.
What do you think of Lima, thus far?

You look like you had really nice weather in Lima. We didn’t have great weather, so the city really didn’t come off particularly pretty. I’ll be honest, I didn’t like Lima much at all. I probably need to give it another chance, but I’m not in a hurry to…I feel like I saw more of the gritty side! Glad you saw some pretty
