Where I’m off to next: Peru and Bolivia

March 30, 2012

By the time you read this, I’ll already be gone.  Destination: South America.  Where to exactly? Peru, with a smattering of Bolivia. HELL TO THE YES.

Liebling and I will be spending two weeks exploring, and I am excited.  After spending the summer in Chile, Honduras, and Guatemala, I have been aching to touch down on Latin American soil.  There’s something about the culture, the people, and the language that stirs me, that brighten my mood, that lights my fire.
Our RLF (Ridiculously Long Flight) via Air France will take us from London to Paris at the crack of dawn, then from the city of lights to the land of the Incas.  We’ll land in Lima, Peru’s capital city, approximately 16 hours after beginning our journey in London. The flight will be long and tedious, I’m sure.  But something tells me it’ll be worth it.
Our plan is to spend two nights in Lima, then fly down to Cuzco where we will take the train up to Macchu Picchu, which I’m certain will be as wild and wonderful as all the pictures make it out to be.  My friend and travel idol, a Lady in London, was just there last week and took this stunning photo.  You can pick your jaw up from the floor any time now.
After that, we will probably go to the hilariously named Lake Titicaca, then cross the border to hang out in Copacabana- the one in Bolivia, not Brazil.  And then after that?  Not too sure, which admittedly, adds to my excitement.
I’ve decided that these two weeks I would try to take a break from the internet, and as such I’m not bringing my laptop along. I feel like I’m too obsessed with the internet and social media on the whole, and this trip is the perfect opportunity to step back and allow myself to fully absorb the Peru/Bolivia experience. While this “unplugging” means that the South American updates on this blog will be spotty,  I’ve scheduled a bunch of posts to appear in my absence. The plan: a new feature over the next week where I post one photo each day.  These photos will consist of some of my most memorable travel moments.
That way you can relive my travel memories while I make new ones!
Have you ever been to South America?  If not, is it on your travel radar? Why or why not?
Psst! Don’t forget to “like” me on Facebook if you haven’t already! Your support is much appreciated!

I know you will have so much fun!! I'm so jealous hahaha but I will definitely be keeping an eye on future blog entries on this trip! I have not been to South America but it's definitely been on my radar for a long while. It just hasn't worked out though. And given my current job, I won't have enough vacation time to go either. So it seems I'll have to move there to explore. It's my goal after my stint in Korea to either live in Colombia (my #1), Argentina, Chile, or Brazil. Then I can [hopefully] travel t/o the continent while there.

I know you will have (are having) a wonderful time. Enjoy the Ceviche and Pisco Sour! I went to Peru in 2004 and wish I could remember the lovely restaurant I LIVED in (cuz the food was sooo good). I went to Pisac market (eh) and did a guided tour of Saqusewhaman (sexy woman, jajaja) and it was worth it. The people were lovely. OH! It took me two weeks to get accustomed to the altitude and by that time it was time to leave! But, you and Liebling should be fine. Cuidate, muchisimo!!

This is so exciting! I am dying to go to Bolivia. I just booked my ticket to Belize, so I'll be in Central and South America from May until December; I can't wait! I'll have to get some good travel tips from you…

I'm sad that you're so close yet so far, and I'm jealous of your amazing trip! Friends were just in Copacabana and loved it, and I know firsthand that Machu Picchu is awesome. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it all!
